Meditation on my Mother

Meditation on my Mother
Meditations of My Mother

Supper simmers
as the sun sets over the railroad tracks,
food incense drifts through the house
bouncing off the walls and gettin’ all up on my head.
All is well
as sweat glistens on momma’s brow.
Quietly––
Lester leaps in body and soul from the radio
courtesy of Daddy-o.
She works over the fire
moving with rhythms and streams
in the universe,
she loves a man and I understand
why she is my mother––fine and mellow,
dark Madonna with soulful eyes and kind hands,
kind hands, giver of life––a woman of light,
soft and magnetic like the moon through the darkness
To show the way––shape made, awake!

Poem by Ancestor Energy (Louis Alemayehu) | Directed By Brian Few Jr. | Cinematography by Jack Davis

This poem is a beautiful translations of a man's love for his mother based solely on memories of his childhood. My idea for this piece is to add a very unforeseen twist that brings a new level of emotion to the piece to compliment the music along with the words shared. Poem by Ancestor Energy.
